We are continuing our zodiac series honoring George W. Carey and Inez E. Perry and their work about Dr. Schuessler's tissue salts with an in-depth look at the celestial sign Leo and its corresponding tissue salt Mag Phos.
Leo is ruled and heavily influenced by the sun. Because of this, those born between July 23 to August 22 are often called sun worshippers.
Children born when the sun is in Leo are said to resonate more with their heart, their motor nerves, and the back, sides, and all areas surrounding the heart. And as all the blood in the body passes through the heart, those born under this astral sign tend to receive every heart vibration, meaning they are more in tune with their and others' feelings of love, compassion, joy, and sadness.
The name lion comes from ancient Egyptian, Jewish, or Greek origin and refers to the yellow or gold/sun-colored carnivorous mammal. That said, the astral colors of Leo are red and green, while its gems are ruby and diamond.
Most importantly, as described in the book The Zodiac and the Salts of Salvation by George W. Carey and Inez E. Perry, the astrological sign Leo relates to the cell salt Magnesia Phosphorica (English term magnesium phosphate) or short Mag Phos.
Tissue salt Mag Phos supports the autonomic nervous system which controls all involuntary functions and muscles – the biggest of which is the heart.
It is an important natural nerve and pain remedy specifically in modern times with many of our nutritional sources lacking in magnesium. Tissue salt Mag Phos is best known as the antispasmodic cell salt and as a nerve and muscle relaxant homeopathic remedy.
In this post, we’ll examine Leo’s connection to cell salt Mag Phos, learn how it helps us to move, and when it’s recommended together with cell salt Kali Phos for even more nerve support. Then, we’ll dive deeper into common deficiencies that can be relieved through the use of Mag Phos.
And because Leo and Mag Phos both have a strong connection to the sun, including its warmth and the energy it provides to the body, we’ll explore the mythological tale of Apollo, the chariot of the sun, and how his son Phaëton tried to harness the sun's energy.
Lastly, we’ll describe the personality traits of Leo and how everything connects through the power of the sun and the balancing tissue salt Mag Phos.
Magnesia Phosphorica: The Cell Salt that Moves Us
“The Sun overflows with divine energy.
It is the ‘brewpot’ that forever filters and scatters the ‘elixir of life'."
-Inez E. Perry in The Zodiac and the Salts of Salvation
Magnesium Phosphate can mainly be found in our nerves and muscles. Our sensory and motor nerves are wound together like strands in a rope and are surrounded by fibers containing molecules of cell salt Mag Phos.
These fibers are conductive and allow for the free flow of the electrical current, or energy, that runs through our nerves. Magnesium is also diamagnetic. This means that it is capable of being repelled by a magnet. Within our bodies, the magnesium is repelled, or moved, to create motion.
The sun, which rules Leo, creates the most powerful electromagnetic vibrations, that we receive through the sun’s rays.
According to ancient beliefs, all planets originate from the sun, and all planets, eventually, will revert back to the sun. For without the sun, life would cease to exist. The magnetic energy that radiates from the sun is the ultimate energy that allows us to move.
Every sunrise is akin to daily restoration. New strength expands through every nerve in our body. For who hasn’t felt a lack of energy when the sunlight hides behind the clouds for days on end?
But while the sun plays a pivotal role in our energy levels, in Dr. Schuessler's biochemical or mineral salt world, a lack of muscular force or nerve vigor means the heart cell salt Mag Phos is lacking.
The sun and Mag Phos work together, for even if one is sufficient in Mag Phos, without the sun, there would be no movement. Magnesium’s root word, mag, is derived from Sanskrit meaning to move; it is unequivocally the cell salt that moves us.
Leo and Aries: Their Connection to the Two Nerve Cell Salts Mag Phos and Kali Phos
Not surprisingly, zodiac signs Leo and Aries are both fire signs. Both are linked to the two nerve cell salts; Kali Phos is a nerve nutrient and Mag Phos is a nerve relaxant. While they both work to treat nerve symptoms, they work in slightly different ways.
Recall from our Aries and Cell Salt Kali Phos blog, that Aries and Kali Phos are connected to the cerebrum. This is where spiritual electricity, or the nerve nutrients, originates. Kali Phos flows through the motor nerves but is pushed and pulled as a result of the magnetic energy pulsating on Mag Phos and as a result, we get motion.
The two must work harmoniously together. If we think of Aries as the electrical generator, it is Leo, and ultimately, Mag Phos, that directs this energy throughout the body and allows for sensory impulses and motion to be produced.
The two leading nerve cell salts Mag Phos and Kali Phos are particularly praised for helping relieve shooting and darting nerve as well as neuralgic pain including sciatica and trigeminal neuralgia (TN).
Now, while there are only two nerve cell salts, all nerves, at the core, are threads or fibers and their basic material is cell salt Kali Muriaticum, otherwise known as chloride of potassium. As we discussed in our Astral Sign Gemini and Cell Salt Kali Mur blog, this is known as the spinning salt.
This is what makes tissue salt Kali Mur always an excellent addition to any cell salts therapy.
Common Deficiencies and the Best Uses of Cell Salt Mag Phos
Deficiencies of magnesium phosphate cause disturbances in the fibers of nerves and muscular tissue and thus result in muscle or nerve spasms. This can include cramps in any of the limbs, spasmodic coughing, and hiccoughs, but may also result in shooting or darting pain, such as sciatica.
Cell Salt Mag Phos for Cramps and Spasms
Leg cramps often come unwanted, particularly when we’re trying to sleep, and can result in restless leg syndrome or painful Charley horses. Muscles that are depleted in magnesium phosphate mean that the nerve impulses are imbalanced, and spasms are the result.
Pregnant women, in particular, may find themselves lacking in Mag Phos and are often visited by leg spasms. Women who experience painful cramps during their period will be happy to hear that the cell salt Mag Phos helps relieve menstrual cramps and regular dosing can reduce their re-occurrence.
Lastly, for all cramps, spasms, twitches, and muscle strains, because – remember! – Mag Phos is a summer cell salt, squirting your cell salt Mag Phos into warm water and sipping it or adding a warm compress while enjoying a dose of Mag Phos helps speed up relief from severe pain; all thanks to the power of the sun.
Cell Salt Mag Phos for Nervous Headaches
A nervous headache is one where you may experience sharp or darting, intermittent pain in the head. Sometimes, you may experience seeing doubles or colors. Chilly sensations up and down the spine can also appear. In this case, heat will help whereas a cold application can simply aggravate the pain further.
Those who experience these types of headaches may notice pain in the nape of the neck, sensitivity to light, squinting or pain in the eyes, or spasmodic twitching of the eyelids. Make tissue salt Mag Phos your ally in finding relaxation and relief from pain. Take two squirts directly in the mouth or in water three times a day.
Tissue Salt Mag Phos for Dental Pain
Cell salt Mag Phos, viewed by many in the natural realm as the homeopathic aspirin, is greatly used to treat dental pain for adults, children, and even infants experiencing teething. Use one squirt in water for children and apply the spray to your baby’s skin by rubbing it into their wrists or cheeks.
Mag Phos is a great option for those with sensitive teeth or those who experience acute tooth pain. That is why our Dental Health & Emergency Cell Salts Kit includes our Bone & Teeth Cell Salts combination spray and cell salt Mag Phos.
The Bone & Teeth Health Cell Salts combination spray consists of three tissue salts:
Cell salt Calc Fluor supports strong tooth enamel and aids in slowing tooth decay and helping teeth grow in straighter.
Cell salt Calc Phos contributes to stronger, denser bones and teeth, aids those with calcium deficiencies and children with late dentition, and helps recover from bone and muscle injuries.
Cell salt Silicea supports collagen production and helps to strengthen brittle bones and teeth. It also works as a natural nerve insulator.
Helios, Apollo, Phaëton, and the Overwhelming Power of the Sun
The ancient Greeks described sun god Helios as the physical manifestation of the sun, while Apollo embodies the sun’s spiritual aspect. Apollo is recognized for bringing spring, summer, and its harvests as well as music, poetry, civilization, purity, and justice to the world.
He was also known for being a god of life and peace, and yet Apollo could easily take down an enemy with the arrows of his sunlight. His power lets him control the chariot of the sun which helps usher in each new day with the sun’s rays.
One day, his son, Phaëton (Phaethon), comes to Apollo with a request. Born of a romance between Apollo and the nymph Clymene, Phaëton sought proof of his divine parentage after being mocked by Epaphus, son of Zeus and Io.
Phaëton traveled to the palace of the sun, where Apollo, surrounded by celestial attendants, acknowledged him and granted him a wish. Phaëton asked to drive the sun's chariot for a day. Despite Apollo's warnings about the dangers, Phaëton insisted.
The chariot, crafted in gold and silver, was too powerful for Phaëton to control. The horses, sensing the light weight, veered off course, causing widespread destruction. The earth was scorched, the Libyan desert dried up, and the Nile hid its head turning the seven mouths of the sea into seven dry channels.
To save the world, Zeus struck Phaëton with a lightning bolt, causing him to fall into the river Eridanus and cooling his body, but not before his hair on fire had marked the heavens with a streak of brightness.
To this day, Phaëton's name is recognized as meaning "shining one" or "son of the sun," and symbolizing immense energy without the wisdom to direct it. It is from this tale, that we learn that the power of the sun – just as much as that of the lion – can be great and dangerous at the same time. We must harness it cautiously, for too much or too little and we may damage ourselves.
Personality Traits of Leo the Lion
Leo is the only zodiac sign to have a beast of prey as its symbol. It is associated with the month of August, a time of year that is critical for fertilization; thus, Leos are often associated with being passionate and fiery in their relationships.
The lion is a symbol of sovereignty, as is the sun, and often referred to as the king of animals. Those born under this astrological sign can be full of heroic qualities, including ardor, courage, vitality, and instinct. They are often known as being high-spirited with possibly a rough or harsh quality and can come off as being overly fierce.
Lastly, the term pulse is frequently used to describe the vibrations of the sun as well as Leo’s connected body part, the heart and its beats. It is therefore that Leos can be described as having an impulsive trait and a need to balance their levels of Mag Phos that pulsates from the heart throughout the body.
As with every birth salt, Mag Phos – the great relaxer and harmonizer tissue salt – is indispensable for Leos, and it helps all of us when we look to tame our strengths and ambitions and return the body to feeling in balance and at ease.
