The homeopathic pharmacopeia offers a variety of single remedies that help treat and relieve specific symptoms caused by the common cold and the flu. Many are key homeopathic remedies and great to have in every home's medicine cabinet.

Homeopathic Single Remedies for the Common Cold

Aconitum Napellus (Monkshood): Onset of cold and cough from exposure to dry cold weather; best for the first 24 hours of a cold.

Arsenicum Album (Arsenic Trioxide): Colds with thin, watery, burning discharges.

Belladonna (Deadly Nightshade): Colds with no discharge, a sudden onset, and high fever; hot, red, throbbing headache, sensitive to light and noise.

Bryonia Alba (Wild Hops): Colds with sneezing, headache, aching limbs, or fever; a chest cold that moves downward into the chest with a dry cough.

Natrum Muriaticum (Chloride of Sodium): Influenza-like colds, colds with lots of discharge, sneezing, and mucous like raw egg white; good for cold soars and sinusitis.

Homeopathic Single Remedies for the Flu (Influenza)

Arsenicum Album (Arsenic Trioxide): Great for stomach flu or flus that start to come on after a chill with a change of body temperature; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and exhaustion with neuralgia, fever, and thirst.

Baptisia Tinctoria (Wild Indigo): Sudden onset; epidemic type flus with muscle pains and soreness all over the body, high fevers, weak and stiff limbs, headache, and sore throat; also effective for stomach flu with gastric complaints and severe diarrhea.

Bryonia Alba (Wild Hops): Slow onset; respiratory flus with chest cold and dry cough; bronchitis; aching in every muscle and cannot bear to move a muscle; stomach flu with gastric complaints and fever; very irritable, frustrated.

Eupatorium Perfoliatum (Thoroughwort): Flu with intense bone pain and violent aching as if broken; bursting headache with soreness internally and restlessness; stomach flu with nausea at sight or smell of food; vomiting of food and bile; fever.

Gelsemium Sempervirens (Yellow Jasmine): Popular flu remedy; extreme chilliness, dizziness, shivering, and chills especially up and down the back; overall weakness, paralyzing exhaustion, numbness, muscle aches, stiffness, and heaviness of limbs, stiff neck, neck ache, sore throat, runny nose, and fever. Flu associated with emotional excitement, stress, and fear.

Selecting Remedy and Potency

Select the remedy that matches your symptoms best. Take as directed by a homeopath or select the 6c or 30c potency, take one dose, and see if there is improvement within 15 minutes. If there is no improvement, select a different remedy. If improvement is seen, repeat the dosage if needed up to 3 times a day.
