Learn to Strengthen your Body and Tune in to your Natural Healing Potential

Homeopathic remedies for Natural HealingHomeopath Ladan Judge explains how homeopathic remedies work, how they are prepared, and how you can use homeopathic remedies to become healthier and build a stronger body, nervous and immune system.

Homeopathic remedies offer safe, gentle, and effective treatment for a variety of acute and chronic illnesses in children and adults. The remedies provide a natural way to stimulate your body’s own defenses, helping you restore balance to your body, mind, and spirit without any adverse side effects.

This modality of medicine places emphasis on treating the whole person, taking into consideration the person’s mental, emotional, and physical condition. Remedies are carefully selected, not only based on the condition at hand but also mental, physical, and lifestyle factors, restoring the person to balance on all levels.

How Do Homeopathic Remedies Work?

Homeopathic treatment and remedy selection are based on the theory of "law of similars" or "like cures like". This theory is similar to the way allergies are treated with allergens. A small amount of a natural substance (plant, mineral, or botanical) with similar properties to the disorder is taken to help bring the body back to balance.

For example, we all know that drinking too much coffee can produce nervousness, anxiety, and stomach disorders, but taking the homeopathic remedy "coffea cruda”" (derived from coffee) helps relieve anxiety and stomach disorders.

How are Homeopathic Remedies Prepared?

Homeopathic remedies are prepared from carefully selected natural elements (plant, mineral, or botanical). The extract from the element is diluted, in varying degrees, so that only an infinitesimal amount of the original substance remains. Interestingly, the more the remedy is diluted, the stronger it becomes, and this process is what makes homeopathy a safe and gentle method of treatment.

How Do You Take Homeopathic Remedies?

Remedies usually come in pellet form in a tube (vial) or in liquid form in a spray or dropper bottle. When taking the remedy in pellet form, one dose of the remedy is three or five pills placed under the tongue. (In order to dispense the pellets from the vial, turn the tube around so that you are holding the lid and then turn the lid a few times until the pellets fall into the lid.) The pellets should be allowed to dissolve slowly in the mouth and should be taken fifteen minutes before or after a meal.

In case of liquid remedies, one dose is to take a few drops or sprays of the remedy in your mouth, allowing the remedy to have time to penetrate through the tongue and mouth into the body. Repeat the dosage until you begin to see a positive change in your symptoms, and then stop the remedy.

Homeopathic remedies can be taken as frequently as every five minutes. The severity of the condition will indicate how frequently to take the remedy, but you should always take into consideration the key principle of homeopathy that "less is more".

Once you have taken one dose of the remedy, observe your symptoms. If you start to see a measurable improvement, take one more dose after three hours, and then stop taking the remedy altogether. If you see no improvement after half an hour, repeat the dose as needed until you see improvement, and then reduce the frequency of the medicine until you stop the remedy altogether.

Rarely do you have to take homeopathic remedies every day for a long period of time. In an acute situation, you may see an improvement anywhere from immediately to 24 hours after taking the remedy. Chronic conditions take longer and should be treated under the supervision of a licensed homeopath.

Since the remedies are all natural with no preservative or harsh chemicals, they are sensitive to contamination, and it is best if they are not handled or touched directly. Store remedies in a cool, dry place away from light, electrical equipment, and strong odors. Aroma therapy oils and strong herbal substances such as camphor, menthol, peppermint, tea tree oil, antiseptics, and caffeine, can reduce the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies. If you are exposed to any of these and feel that the action of the remedy has been affected by your symptoms coming back, simply repeat the dose.

The Healing Begins with You

As you begin to use homeopathic medicine, you not only become healthier, building a stronger body, nervous system, and immunity, but you also begin to tune in to your own healing potential. You become more aware of your body and mind, the trigger points for your conditions, and how you can change your lifestyle to help keep yourself healthy.

For example, if you get frequent headaches, you can begin to observe some details regarding the headache, the time of the day they occur, where does it hurt, and if they are triggered by stress, food allergies, or any other factors. Begin to change your diet and lifestyle to help reduce the trigger points of your headache, and take homeopathic treatment whenever possible. With more awareness, you might be able to detect the headache coming on; just at the onset, you can take the headache remedy. In time, this process will help you feel relief from the headache faster and reduce the frequency of your headaches.
