About Causticum from the Materia Medica
- Cough and hoarseness with constant desire to swallow and clear the throat
- Chronic rheumatism and arthritic pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Tightness and contraction in muscles and tendons
- Bed-wetting and incontinence
- First aid remedy for burns
Causticum is the remedy for chronic rheumatism, arthritic pain, stretching and tearing pain in the muscles and tendons, facial paralysis (Bell’s palsy), and incontinence. It is also used for a dry, hoarse cough and the inability to clear mucus from the throat and lungs, as well as for restless limbs at night and sporadic muscle contractions.
Causticum is a first aid remedy for burns which blister. Useful to treat warts, bed-wetting, and over-strained vocal cords resulting in hoarseness and laryngitis.
Causticum is made from a mixture of slaked lime and potassium hydroxide. As its name suggests, the concentrated form is quite caustic, so skin contact with an undiluted form of this polychrest needs to be avoided.
